The museums of the southern coast of the Province of Grosseto dedicate space to the sea, not only from an environmental viewpoint but also with a view of its archaeology, history and local traditions. The Spanish Fortress in Porto Santo Stefano houses archaeological records from under the sea, found either by chance or following excavation of the depths between the Islands of Giglio and Giannutri.

Two aquaria dedicated to marine and lagoon fauna can be found in Porto Santo Stefano and Talamone. In the Spanish Fortress, space in the Shipwright's room (sala dei Maestri d’Ascia) and also in the two Aquaria is dedicated to the fishing tradition. Another strength of the museums in this area is the archaeological element. The archaeology area of the ancient town of Cosa-Ansedonia and its museum owned and run by the State, are not part of the Museum Network of the Maremma.

The second archaeology-museum area is that in the Orbetello area, with the Civic Museum, in the new building of the Polveriera (gunpowder store) Guzman, and the permanent exhibition of the Fronton of Talamone, one of the most famous Etruscan monuments in this part of the ancient "Etruria".A different kind of museum, dedicated to the contemporary history of the area is the recently created Museum of Country life in Albinia.
