After more than 30 years since the closure of the old Civic Museum, the new Archaeology Museum in the Pulveriera Guzman gunpowder store was inaugurated in the summer of 2004. The Museum has a strong teaching and specialist bias and houses the wealth of locally discovered archaeological findings including remains of particular value found in the Etruscan necropolis on the isthmus at Orbitello, votive and burial objects from the Vivarelli Collection and weapons and agricultural tools in miniature and life size from the Military Genius Collection found in Talamone, mostly uncovered in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The second section on the ground floor of the Polveriera Guzman will be dedicated to the most recent archaeological finds and the documentation of the many Roman sites in the area.
