history and purpose
The Visitors'Centre is the reference pointfor the six nature reserves of MountAmiata,the Sites of Community impor-tance (SIC)and for all aspects regardingthe natural environment of Amiata.Thefive rooms of the Centre are located on thefirst floor of the building opposite theentrance to Castello Aldobrandesco.Photographs,enlargements and maps illus-trate the Amiata area and the Fauna Park.Inside the centre there is also multimediaarea with equipment for the projection offilms and documentaries on the fauna ofMount Amiata.The second room is dedi-cated to geology and the third contains amultimedia station for research into naturalsciences and the local area.The Province of Grosseto is currently set-ting up webcams for observing the FaunaPark on Mount Labbro;at Diaccia Botrona,with base in the Casa Zimenes and on theFarma at Castello del Belagaio.In thisspace there is also a map of the vegetationon Mount Labbro.The fourth room contains a display areaabout woodlands and mushrooms,withreconstructions of a beech-wood and amountain stream environment.The fifthroom is dedicated to the themes of waterand footpaths.
