history and purpose The Museum of the Vine and Wine is housed in a renovated building in the main square atMontenero d'Orcia and lets visitors relive the history of viticulture of the local area and itsinfluence on the landscape.The museum comprises various exhibit sections which follow the wine-making process fromthe grape to the glass.Local,traditional tools used in the past for vine cultivation and wine making,discovered in thesurrounding countryside,are on display,including vine pruning sheers,scissors for cuttinggrapes,tools for treating the vines,such as a pump for spreading copper,and bottle corkingtools and corkscrews.Other exhibits include a grape crusher on a tun,several vats,demijohns,bottles of varioussizes,a restored eighteenth century wine-press,complete with its original casing,levers andgrates,which was probably still in use until 1910.
