The Fortress Roccaccia di Montevitozzo

The Roccaccia or Rocca di Monte Vitozzo is located in one of the highest places of the mountain, precisely at 926 m. above sea level.
The Roccaccia is surrounded by an enchanting landscape of chestnut and beech trees, fields and water springs.  Many centuries ago, this territory witnessed battles and conquests.
Presumably, this fortress was built by the Aldobrandeschi  family in a place, from which they could dominate the entire valley and easily spot enemies and their attacks. Probably, there were also other buildings near the fortress, which were used as houses and cattle sheds.
From the ruins of the Roccaccia you can enjoy a breath-taking view of the surrounding valleys and the sea.
The Roccaccia is located in the Monte Penna Natural Reserve. Walking through the Reserve along the many forest paths and unpaved roads, you can also meet wild horses and  cows. Moreover, there are many picnic areas and a small lake fed by spring water.
Trekking enthusiasts and nature lovers can’t miss this experience.
